My Sister's Family Room Progress

The cabinetry has arrived and is ready to be installed.....

I mentioned in a recent post that I am helping my sister with her family room makeover and our current task is getting the built-ins installed and painted {I say "we" but we aren't doing any of it, our handy man is}. We are super excited to see these bad boys in place.  Our handy man, Don, thought of EVERYTHING including soft close cabinet doors. {Hallelujah, no more banging doors!}

Here are some progress shots....

Don had a great idea to install an outlet behind where the TV will be mounted.  He is an awesome planner.   There is nothing I hate more than a mounted TV with the wires hanging down everywhere.

First bookshelf is in and it looks GORG. I love the arches he added at the top to give the
 shelves a little character.

Things are getting done so quickly, I CANNOT wait to see it all done.  The next step is picking tile/stone for the fireplace surround and hearth.  I'll be back soon with those options. I hope you all had a good weekend =)

My Sister's Family Room

I'm back and ready to get back in the saddle.  If you can remember I recently did a couple of rooms in my sister Holly's new house; her kitchen and her upstairs hallway {which still needs to be accessorized}.  We knew we wanted to attack her family room next.  This room is SUPER dark.  It has a brick fireplace, horrible dark brown trim EVERYWHERE and no lighting.

Pretty STINKIN awful right??? At least you didn't see it when it was painted guacamole green. Right now it is a soft gray tone but we intend on painting it a deeper color once we get some other things done first.  Here are some shots of her space.

Brown door to match the brown trim...lol....so bad!

Another brown door to their wash room and garage door....

Okay so here is what our plan is....

 FAMILY ROOM design PLAN

1. SELL THE HUGE Sectional
2. PAINT THE WALLS A DEEPER color
3. REPLACE THE BROWN trim
4. BUILT-INS AROUND THE fireplace
5. INSTALL STACKED STONE ON THE FIREPLACE surround
6. INSTALL A GRANITE SLAB ON THE hearth
7. MOUNT THE TV ABOVE THE fireplace
8. INSTALL AN OUTLET FOR TV CORDS INSIDE THE Built-ins
9. CROWN MOLDING throughout
10. PAINT THE TWO BROWN doors
11. NEW furniture
12. POSSIBLY PAINT THE OPEN bookcases
13. STOCK THE SHELVES AND CABINETRY WITH toys/accesories

So here is a photo I found on the www that I thought was a great representation of what we were all thinking in regards to the built-ins...

I immediately sent this photo to my sister and her husband. They both loved the idea of doing built-ins or fake built-ins(store bought cabinetry trimmed out). I called up a friend to see if he was up for doing some handy work and he was on board. SCORE!!!! We sent this picture to him as well and he was able to come up with a budget and it was on like donkey kong. We were so excited to get started. He had planned on making the cabinetry at his house and then bringing it over a couple weeks later.  I'll be back with those pictures after the New Year!  I cannot wait to see how these built-ins brighten up the space. I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday and are looking forward to the NEW YEAR!
2013.... WHAT??? I can't believe it's going to be 2013.  I feel like it was just 2000 yesterday when I was graduating high school...SOOOOO CRAY CRAY!!!! {as my cousin Erin would say...lol}.

I'll be back soon! Over and out...

Disney Trip

Hey All! I am back home and LOVING my bed.  My head hit that pillow last night and I was OUT before I could even blink an eye.  I went to Disney for the week with my family and we had a blast.  Every since my little peanut, Micah passed away I hadn't realized how much I really needed to get out of town. It was the highlight of my year and I owe a huge thank you to my mom, who put it all together.  She decided last minute that since I was out on a personal leave of work and my sister Holly just started her maternity leave that it was the perfect time to GET AWAY!  So we booked the trip only a few weeks ago and I can't believe it is already over.  There was a total of 11 of us on the trip and it was SOOOOO much fun traveling together.  I loved being with the kids 24-7 and I never thought I'd say that...lol!  It was so much fun waking up to them each morning, that was definitely one of the top 5 highlights of the trip.  Here are a few others....

1. Awesome Fireworks

2. Parades

3. A REAL gingerbread house in our hotel and a huge xmas tree!   RIDIC....

4. Meeting the characters...

5. Quality time with my little nuggets.....

6. Awesome view from our hotel (my bro in law, Tom and my new nephew, Vincent)

7. Pool Time

8. Emily lost a tooth

 9. Family time....

10. And last but not least.... THE RIDES duhhhhh!!!!

Soooo....that's it, that was one of the coolest vacations I've had in a long time!  THANK YOU Momma T for organizing, planning and making it ALL happen.  You are the BEST! Muahhhhh

"Chip It" Tool Rocks My World

Ever see an awesome space online and you are dying to know what colors they used in it? And of course there is no description and there is no one to contact to find out? Well, Sherwin Williams has solved that problem and it's called Let's Chip It! It's an online program where you drag their "chip it" tool onto your toolbar and anytime you see a photo you like you can use the tool to chip some colors out for you. I actually pinned this pic below on Pinterest before I knew about chip it and now I am hating the fact that the colors are not listed. Grrrrrr!

Sooooo....I decided to use the chip it tool and check it out.... BOOM I got the colors I was looking for, "Fleeting Green" and "Zeus." As you can see, it isn't perfect because sometimes it throws a rogue color in there.  For instance, "Polished Mahogany" is nowhere to be found in this shot but at least the ones I wanted were listed. It's still an amazing design tool!  I could hug the people at Sherwin Williams for creating this.

Here are some of the photos saved in my ChipBooks....

Then I thought it would be fun to use it on a couple of my own spaces at home. It did pretty good!

Isn't this tool just the coolest thing? I am OB... SESSED! You can click here to get started chipping some of your favorite spaces online. CHIP AWAY....
